2nd Place - Kevin Lessard

The second tournament of the year, held on the River Lakes, ended up being a tough one. Participation was high and everyone chose to fish McQueeney, which led to crowded lake conditions. The reason most members gave for choosing McQueeney was summed up best by Scott Vaughn who said "You don't get as many bites on McQueeney as some of the other river lakes, but each bite could be a big one." And Scott should know, he has a pair of 12 pound hogs on his wall at home that he caught out of McQueeney!
However, muddy water made getting bites, big and small, a tough ordeal on Saturday. Matt Houston kept his hot streak alive with his 3rd win in the last 4 tournaments. He almost went 4 for 4 losing to Ron Carter by less than 2/10th of a pound last month at Coleto Creek. Houston credits his recent success to the lessons he has learned from his fellow club members. "Scott clued me into the bait that fired up the big fish (8.20 lbs). Shawn, Matt, Ron and the others have also taught me a lot. That is what I love about Rebel, no matter who wins, we all are happy about it 'cause we all had a part in it. I can't wait for Sundown (Joey) Brown to get one." Houston's winning weight was 16.03 lbs and was anchored by a 8.20 lb lunker. He said the big one missed a "Scott Vaughn" special moving bait, then hit a follow up cast with a Senko.
In 2nd Place, Kevin Lessard bounced back from a tough tournament last month at Coleto. He had a great day at McQueeney fishing the lake from dam to dam. He covered a lot of water in search of active fish and finished with a weight of 13.40 lbs and a 7+ lb kicker fish.
Scott Vaughn got 3rd with 7.12 lbs and that in itself is the biggest indicator of how tough the fishing was. He was not able to get on his best water most of the day (which was fortunate for Houston) due to the unreal amount of anglers on the water. He still was able to finish 3rd which is a testament to his determination as well as his savy as an angler.
All in all it was a tough, tough day out there. 4th place went to Eric Tauer with 6.71 lbs who coaxed 4 keepers from the muddy McQueeney water. Matt Rigby was 5th with 4.68 lbs and Shawn Carusella was 6th with 2.29 lbs and they both were surprised how tough the fishing was.
But as usual everyone had a good time. Shawn and Jesse were having so much fun they decided to fish an extra hour, and to hear that story you will have to come to the next meeting.
